Bihzuun Daily Research Brief

Monday, August 10, 2026  |  Market Regime: Aggressive / Risk-On

Today’s BVF Screening Result

⚠ No stocks cleared the Bihzuun Value Filter (BVF) today.

After running every name in our coverage universe through the Bihzuun Value Filter — our proprietary multi-dimensional screening process evaluating financial quality, balance sheet discipline, income return, growth consistency, and intrinsic value — zero equities met the minimum rating threshold required for a formal Buy or Speculative-Buy recommendation in today’s session.

This is not a market-crash signal. In an aggressive, risk-on regime like the present one, valuations across the quality-value intersection tend to compress. The BVF’s bar does not move with sentiment; it is anchored to fundamentals. When the market bids up quality names beyond what intrinsic value supports, the filter produces exactly this result: a clean slate with no actionable long ideas at current prices.

Below, we provide a full macro and event-risk briefing, a regime-context narrative, and a watchlist section covering the names most likely to re-enter BVF territory on a price pullback or improved earnings visibility.

Section I — Macro Environment & Regime Narrative

1.1 Current Market Posture

The Bihzuun Regime Impact Engine has classified today’s posture as Aggressive / Risk-On. Momentum is confirmed in high-growth technology and cybersecurity. The yield curve is steepening — a historically constructive backdrop for cyclical and growth exposure alike. The VIX has ticked modestly higher but remains at a level that, in our regime framework, registers as a monitoring point rather than a systemic warning.

This regime has meaningful historical antecedents. The Bihzuun Historical Analog Engine flags three parallels at moderate-to-high similarity:

Historical analogs are informative context, not predictions. Each market cycle has idiosyncratic drivers, and the present rate, geopolitical, and AI-capex environment has no perfect precedent.

1.2 Why the BVF Produced Zero Passes Today

The BVF is a fundamentals-anchored filter. In aggressive, risk-on regimes, price appreciation tends to outrun earnings and book value growth for quality names — compressing dividend yields, expanding P/E and P/B multiples, and eroding the margin-of-safety cushion that the filter requires. This dynamic is entirely consistent with all three historical analogs cited above: in each case, the richest valuations were found in high-quality franchises precisely because the market was aggressively repricing them.

Zero passes today does not mean our coverage universe is filled with broken businesses. It means the market is, on balance, pricing quality appropriately to generously — and the BVF will not reach for yield or growth at any price. Patience is a required input to this methodology.

The most likely path back to actionable BVF passes: (1) a moderate broad-market pullback driven by a hawkish macro surprise, (2) company-specific earnings disappointments that reset individual valuations, or (3) a rotation out of current momentum leaders that pressures quality-value names disproportionately.

Section II — Event Risk Briefing

The Bihzuun Event Risk Engine has identified a concentrated cluster of high- and critical-impact events across the next six weeks. We address them in chronological order and flag any that fall within five trading days of today (August 10, 2026) with a ⚠ IMMINENT banner.

⚠ IMMINENT — August 12, 2026 [HIGH]: BLS July 2026 CPI Release

Event: The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases July 2026 CPI data on Wednesday, August 12 — two trading days from today.

Why It Matters: This is the dominant macro catalyst of the week. The July CPI print will be the single most important input to Federal Reserve rate-cut expectations heading into the September 15–16 FOMC meeting. A reading that surprises to the downside (cooler inflation) would validate the soft-landing narrative and likely push equities higher across cyclical and growth sectors. A hot surprise would immediately pressure rate-sensitive equities and could force a hawkish reassessment of the September outcome.

Market Positioning Risk: In an aggressive regime, the market is already pricing a degree of Fed accommodation. A hot CPI print therefore carries asymmetric downside — it would not merely slow the rally; it could trigger a sharp, fast repricing of rate-sensitive positions. Any investor with leveraged long exposure heading into Wednesday should be aware of this tail risk.

BVF Implication: A significant CPI-driven selloff could rapidly bring several names back within BVF range. We will run an intra-week supplemental screen if Wednesday’s print produces a 1.5%+ broad-market move in either direction.

⚠ IMMINENT — August 13, 2026 [MEDIUM]: BLS July 2026 PPI Release

Event: The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the July 2026 Producer Price Index at 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, August 13 — three trading days from today.

Context: June PPI fell 0.3% month-over-month but rose 5.5% year-over-year — a divergence that highlights how base-effect comparisons can distort the sequential signal. The market will read July PPI in tandem with Wednesday’s CPI as a pipeline-inflation pair. A sharp PPI deceleration after a benign CPI print would cement soft-landing confidence; persistent PPI strength would raise concerns about future margin pressure for manufacturers and retailers.

Sector Watch: Retailers (WMT, ROST), industrials, and any consumer-facing franchise with significant cost-of-goods exposure will be most sensitive to the PPI read.

August 15, 2026 [MEDIUM]: WMT Tariff Policy Update

An update or escalation on U.S. import tariff policy is possible around August 15. The current 10% universal tariff baseline is a known headwind for Walmart’s cost structure. WMT management has signaled plans to pass through tariff refunds as price cuts — but if tariffs escalate beyond 10%, that calculus changes materially. This event is a secondary catalyst for the August 20 WMT earnings report.

August 19, 2026 [MEDIUM]: FOMC July Meeting Minutes

The Federal Reserve releases minutes from the July 28–29 FOMC meeting on August 19. These minutes will provide granular detail on the internal rate debate — specifically, how divided policymakers were and what inflation data points they were watching. In the current aggressive regime, a dovish read would sustain momentum; a meaningfully hawkish tone would accelerate the September-meeting repricing that CPI/PPI data may have already initiated.

August 20, 2026 [HIGH]: WMT Q2 FY2027 Earnings & ROST Q2 2026 Earnings

Two high-profile earnings events land on the same day:

Neither WMT nor ROST cleared the BVF today. However, an earnings-driven selloff on either name could reopen the valuation window. We have both on active watchlist monitoring.

August 26, 2026 [MEDIUM]: BEA Q2 2026 GDP Second Estimate

The Bureau of Economic Analysis releases the second estimate of Q2 2026 GDP. The advance estimate came in at 1.5% — soft but not recessionary. A downward revision toward 1.0% or below would reignite growth-scare sentiment; a surprise revision higher would further cement soft-landing confidence. Preliminary corporate profits data accompany this release, providing a macro cross-check on the earnings season narrative.

★ CRITICAL — August 27–29, 2026: Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium

Event: The Kansas City Fed hosts the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is expected to speak on or around August 27.

Why It’s Critical: Jackson Hole speeches have historically served as the Fed’s preferred venue for pre-committing to major policy pivots — Bernanke used it to signal QE2 in 2010; Powell used it in 2022 to deliver his most hawkish message of the tightening cycle. With the September 15–16 FOMC meeting now the dominant focal point, Warsh’s remarks will be dissected word-by-word for signals on whether a rate cut is coming.

Chair Warsh Context: Kevin Warsh is broadly viewed as more hawkish than his predecessor and has publicly emphasized inflation credibility. Any signal of patience on rate cuts would be a meaningful dovish-expectation reset; an outright hawkish tilt could produce a sharp risk-off episode heading into September.

BVF Opportunity: A Jackson Hole-driven broad selloff is one of the highest-probability paths to generating new BVF passes in late August. We will run a full intra-week screen immediately following Chair Warsh’s remarks.

August 28, 2026 [MEDIUM]: BLS Preliminary Benchmark Revision to Payrolls

The BLS publishes the 2026 Preliminary Benchmark Revision to Establishment Survey data at 10:00 AM ET. This release can materially revise prior payroll levels — in 2024, the preliminary benchmark revision showed payrolls overstated by ~818,000 jobs. A similarly large downward revision would raise questions about the true strength of the labor market and could shift Fed rate-path expectations meaningfully.

★ CRITICAL — September 2–5, 2026: Broadcom (AVGO) Q3 FY2026 Earnings

Event: Broadcom reports Q3 FY2026 earnings, with the release window spanning September 2–8 but most likely on or around September 3–5 after market close. Note: the Event Risk Engine flags two slightly different analyst estimates — consensus EPS of approximately $2.22–$2.83 per share, reflecting some uncertainty in the exact release date and revenue-recognition timing.

The Bar Is Exceptionally High: Q3 guidance calls for record revenue of $29.4 billion (+84% year-over-year), including $16 billion in AI semiconductor revenue (+200% YoY). These are extraordinary growth rates. A beat-and-raise on AI segment revenue would likely push AVGO and the broader semiconductor complex materially higher. A miss — even by a small percentage — against such elevated expectations could trigger a sharp de-rating.

Regime Context: In an aggressive posture, the market is priced for AVGO to deliver. The asymmetric risk here is to the downside on any guidance disappointment. Investors in AI semiconductor names should treat the AVGO print as a sector-wide read-through event.

September 4, 2026 [HIGH]: BLS August 2026 Nonfarm Payrolls

The last major labor market data point before the September 15–16 FOMC meeting. A weak payrolls print paired with soft CPI (see below) would build a compelling case for a September rate cut; a strong print would give the Fed cover to hold.

★ CRITICAL — September 11, 2026: BLS August 2026 CPI

The final inflation print before the September 16 FOMC rate decision. This is arguably the highest single-day macro event risk between now and the September meeting. With a divided FOMC and Chair Warsh’s tone still uncertain after Jackson Hole, the August CPI will likely be the decisive data point that locks in — or rules out — a September rate cut. Market volatility around this release is expected to be elevated.

★ CRITICAL — September 15–16, 2026: FOMC September Meeting with SEP and Dot Plot

The September FOMC meeting is the most consequential policy event on the near-term calendar. It is the first meeting since June to include a Summary of Economic Projections (SEP) and dot plot update — meaning the market will receive not just a rate decision but the Fed’s formal projections for the rate path through 2027 and beyond. Every basis point of the dot plot will be scrutinized. This is the event that all of the above macro data is building toward.

Section III — Watchlist: Names to Monitor for BVF Re-Entry

While no stocks cleared the BVF today, the following names from our coverage universe are on active watchlist status. We do not issue formal BRS ratings on watchlist names — ratings require BVF passage. However, these are franchises where the financial quality profile is strong enough that a valuation reset could bring them into range relatively quickly.

3.1 Walmart (WMT) — Watchlist

Why It’s on Watch: Walmart’s economic moat — derived from unmatched logistics scale, private-label penetration, and a growing high-margin advertising and membership business — is one of the deepest in global retail. The Walmart+ membership flywheel and the Walmart Connect advertising platform have meaningfully improved the quality of the earnings stream over the past three years, shifting the business mix toward higher-margin, recurring revenue.

Current Valuation Concern: At current prices, WMT trades at a premium that exceeds what our intrinsic value models support given the tariff headwinds, slowing U.S. consumer demand signals, and the uncertainty around the August 15 tariff policy update. The BVF requires a margin of safety that is not currently available.

Catalyst Watch — August 20 Earnings (HIGH Risk): The Q2 FY2027 earnings report before market open on August 20 is the primary catalyst. If WMT guides below current consensus on comp-store sales or operating margins — particularly citing tariff pass-through uncertainty — the stock could sell off meaningfully, potentially restoring the valuation cushion the BVF requires. Conversely, a beat-and-raise would likely push the stock further from BVF range.

What We’re Watching In the Print:

3.2 Ross Stores (ROST) — Watchlist

Why It’s on Watch: Ross Stores is structurally positioned to benefit from the current environment. Off-price retail is a countercyclical compounder — when consumer budgets tighten and full-price retailers over-order, ROST gains both customer traffic and favorable inventory sourcing terms. The tariff environment amplifies both effects: tariff-pressured full-price retailers generate more excess inventory for ROST to opportunistically source, and cost-sensitive consumers trade down to off-price channels.

Current Valuation Concern: Similar to WMT, the market has priced much of the structural advantage into ROST’s multiple. The stock does not currently offer the margin of safety the BVF requires, even accounting for the favorable demand environment.

Catalyst Watch — August 20 Earnings (HIGH Risk): ROST reports Q2 2026 after market close on August 20, the same day as WMT. Off-price comp-store sales are the key metric. ROST has a history of conservative guidance, meaning the setup is often for beats. A meaningful earnings-driven gap down — possible if macro guidance is cautious — could be the re-entry opportunity. A gap up on a blowout quarter would push the stock further from our range.

What We’re Watching In the Print:

3.3 Broadcom (AVGO) — Watchlist

Why It’s on Watch: AVGO’s AI semiconductor and custom silicon business has generated extraordinary revenue growth, and the company’s diversified model — spanning networking ASICs, storage controllers, wireless connectivity, and enterprise software (VMware) — provides earnings durability that pure-play AI chip names lack. The VMware acquisition has substantially increased recurring software revenue, improving the quality of the earnings base.

Current Valuation Concern: The stock is priced for perfection ahead of the September earnings event. With Q3 guidance calling for $29.4 billion in revenue and $16 billion in AI semiconductor revenue — a 200% YoY increase — the market has already given AVGO substantial credit for execution. The BVF’s intrinsic value model does not support the current price at required margin-of-safety levels.

Catalyst Watch — September 2–5 Earnings (CRITICAL): This is the most binary near-term catalyst in our watchlist. An AI revenue beat against the already elevated $16 billion guidance bar would be a significant upside catalyst — not just for AVGO but for the entire semiconductor sector. A miss or guidance cut would likely produce a sharp de-rating. We note that analyst EPS estimates range from ~$2.22 to ~$2.83 depending on the assumed release date and revenue-recognition methodology, which itself signals unusual uncertainty for a name of this size.

Potential Re-Entry Scenario: A post-earnings selloff on in-line results (the “sell the news” pattern common to high-expectation prints) could bring AVGO within BVF range more quickly than a macro-driven broad selloff. We will run an immediate supplemental screen following the Q3 earnings release.

Section IV — Financial Quality Framework: What BVF Looks For

For readers less familiar with the Bihzuun methodology, the Bihzuun Value Filter is a proprietary multi-dimensional screening process evaluating financial quality, balance sheet discipline, income return, growth consistency, and intrinsic value. It is fundamentally conservative — anchored in the tradition of purchasing durable businesses at prices that provide a quantified margin of safety. The filter does not relax its standards in bull markets; if anything, aggressive regimes make it harder to pass, because prices rise faster than fundamentals.

When the BVF produces zero passes — as it has today — it is functioning as designed. The screen is most valuable precisely on days like today: it prevents the publication from chasing momentum-driven names at prices that embed unrealistic permanence into current valuations. The cost of discipline in a melt-up is underperformance relative to a rising index. The benefit is avoiding the violent mean-reversion that follows when the melt-up ends — an outcome the 2017/2018 Volmageddon analog illustrates clearly.

Section V — Overall Bihzuun Research Rating (BRR)

BRR Posture: Cautiously Constructive — Watchful Patience

The Bihzuun Research Rating for the current publication cycle is Watchful Patience within an overall constructive regime posture. This posture reflects the following synthesis:

  • Regime tailwind is real. The aggressive, risk-on regime reading is supported by confirmed momentum in growth and technology, a steepening yield curve, and three historically constructive analogs. We do not fade this signal reflexively.
  • Valuations have run ahead of intrinsic value on quality names. The BVF produced zero passes today — a direct, quantitative expression of the fact that quality businesses are priced for good outcomes rather than discounted for uncertainty. This is a condition to respect, not ignore.
  • The event calendar is exceptionally dense. The next six weeks contain two CPI prints, a PPI release, FOMC minutes, Jackson Hole, a GDP revision, payroll benchmark revisions, and the most consequential FOMC meeting in years. Each of these is a potential inflection point — constructive or disruptive. In a market priced for good outcomes, the asymmetry of surprise runs somewhat downward.
  • Patience is active, not passive. We are not recommending moving to cash or reducing equity exposure. We are recommending that new incremental capital not be deployed into names that cannot clear an intrinsic-value-anchored filter. Existing positions in high-quality compounders remain defensible within a risk-on framework. The watchlist is live and will be converted to actionable BRS ratings the moment BVF thresholds are met.

No formal BRS ratings are issued today. The next scheduled supplemental screen will be triggered by (1) the July 12 CPI release if it produces a broad-market move of 1.5% or greater, (2) the August 20 earnings events for WMT and ROST, or (3) Chair Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks on or around August 27. Any of these three events has the potential to meaningfully reprice quality-value equities and reopen BVF opportunities.
